Happy Thursday-feels-like-Friday, kids. First of all, I’m in such a spin as to how it’s already February and will likely continue to hammer home this incredulous disgust at the passage of time until the Olympics roll in, then December 31st, then February 1st 2017, and so on. Just so we’re on the same page.
For now, let’s turn our attention to the sleepy streets of Paris on a Sunday morning last September, that began with completely empty streets and a cinematic wash of early fall sun and biting breeze, and finished with a hilarious number of men (of all ages, mind you), frozen mid-walk, mid-cycle, mid-parallel-park, jaws on the floor, desperately fumbling for their phones to snap one more moment of Shanina’s wild hair, stormy eyes, bronzed limbs, captivating beauty, et cetera.
I could go on about how well the girl’s freckles and power-brows perfectly offset the punchy femininity of Alessandro Michele’s Resort 2016 woman. Or how she can move, which I’ll never back down on as one of the most important characteristic of a successful model, over and above looks – second only to a killer personality, which Ms SS here has plenty of. Certainly, not every Victoria’s Secret super babe will bounce back and forth across a busy French intersection, unfazed by unsolicited attention and weaving traffic.
I feel like that’s the effortless kind of woman that Gucci, Swarovski and Michael Lo Sordo are all aiming to embody in their designs, despite their dramatically different target markets.
