I first met the Serpent & The Swan sisters almost two and a half years ago now - right when they were starting out, and when I was green to the industry (certainly, still in high school). Every little once in a while since then, they have popped up on my radar with a sharper aesthetic each time, so I was more than happy to work with the girls one sunny Wednesday on this series still and moving imagery around their impeccable Autumn/Winter 2013 collection that will be hitting stores in not-too-long - certainly, they couldn't come soon enough with Northern Hemisphere brutality set to bowl my wardrobe over in a few short weeks.
What I love about Hayley and Lauri's work is that their undercurrent concept is so clear all the way from the moodboard to the garment and the girl or guy who wears it. They work with artists and professionals who may not necessary be limited to their exact vision, but are excited by the creative process and are willing to push their boundaries to create something strong and visually compelling - not just a fake-lashed model in pretty clothes. Not at all - Serpent & The Swan is a whole other lifestyle altogether, right down to the hand-cast brass bones stitched into the back of each piece you buy, and the skulls, moons and anchors that find their way through this 'Night Seas' collection.
Keep an eye out here and on Instagram for me rolling out some of this sea-inspired goodness while in NY and London town, but in the mean time, check out the girls' current collection and dream of sunnier days, dear Sydney.
