Last night, DVF's Palazzo sailed past the crème de la crème of Sydney's apparel-intrigued and Australians fell in love with Diane's charm, timelessness and inverted Cinderella story all over again.
When I first spoke to the vibrant Diane von Furstenberg in New York, her 'Palazzo' collection had just walked to the beat of New Yorkers' appreciation for the long time fashion royal. Last night, the same collection sailed past the crème de la crème of Sydney's apparel-intrigued in Westfield Sydney's Sky Lobby, and, after a few decades since her last visit, Australians fell in love with Diane's charm, timelessness and inverted Cinderella story all over again.
I chatted to her backstage amongst the buzz of models and assistants - all excited to be working on a show of such grand proportions. The flight had been long, she said, but she was glad that she was finally here. The people were always smiling, there was so much space, the light was beautiful - the weather had really turned around for her. That happened for the Queen and Oprah, Diane! She was headed to Hayman Island to open her penthouse tomorrow, and she loved my blazer. It's one of yours, Diane! Of course it was.
Margaret, Margaret - Diane would like to know who makes your shoes. They were TOPSHOP. She nodded her approval (and maybe a surprised smile).
The show began - Zanita, Kate Waterhouse and I all agreed that it was a beautiful collection and a beautiful show. Similar small talk erupted all over the lobby.
I feel like Kate may have been annoyed with our heads and giant cameras being in all her Instagrams, I said to Z.
