Every time anyone talks about starting afresh, going back to basics, wiping the slate clean, it always ends up at black jeans, black tees and black boots. Unless you’re Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, I just find that boring. I’ve come to realise that the freaking awesome details on that black leather jacket you invested your life savings in aren’t really going to catch anyone’s eye when you stride past at New-Yorker pace. At the same time, I probably wouldn’t be wandering around in a tonal get-up from the neon department.
This is where shades of grey, beige, tan and even navy come in quite perfectly. Any purchase of those colourways will look incredible head-to-toe, as well as working exceptionally well with whatever else is in your wardrobe.
As my crazed tweets notified you all yesterday, NET-A-PORTER’s sale finally hit Aussie shores, and of course, I treated myself to this stunning DKNY shoulder bag – under $100? Undeniable winning. Confusing weather is the perfect time to experiment with new silhouettes, a mix of textures, and master the art of layers that must come off to reveal just as outstanding an outfit beneath when central heating gets unbearable. Given my love affair with my favourite coat as of late, grey is certainly going to be a good springboard for a fresh approach to what I have in my wardrobe. Thinking about how much of my clothing would be covered by this mish-mash of textured knit, leather, silk, and marle, I really do need it all.
It’s such a good time of year to go nuts on sales – Shopbop, ASOS and TOPSHOP to name a few. And Vogue’s Online Shopping Night is tomorrow (June 20) from 12 noon till midnight, too! Sara tells me that Westfield online is having up to 75% off? Crazy.
Speaking of fresh starts, if I were to hypothetically sell some of my wardrobe, who would hypothetically want a slice? And where? eBay? Copious? My own store?
